Notes from the Garden Journal: The Ides of March

A month for murder, sexism ...and liberalism

Cast of controversy, objects of outrage: Bentley, Couey, Greer, Felos and Shiavo

Proverb: When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked man rules the people mourn.

March sadness was the order for this month among many as they witnessed the most unimaginable examples of essentially sanctioned injustice bearing down in pure calculated, cruel and cold-blooded murder. But should we only blame the judges and those principal characters (be they the formally accused or those now public figures we personally may loathe) or is this time also for introspection.

Some of the alleged perpetrators were finally brought to justice and matriculated into the legal system for what might have been prevented had they still been incarcerated for their previous hideous offenses. Meanwhile others apparently abused the legal system to completely escape justice in this world all together.

In both instances the lenient or outright evil actions of liberal judges led to the deaths of innocent victims. Then again as we know, this has been a matter of reality for much longer than the month just ended.

So our prayers go out to the victims’ families and our hopes lie in fixing what is so severely wrong with our judicial system today that it would with the one hand let a violent sex-offender or convicted murderer out of prison and cry that the death penalty for rape or for a 17 year old is cruel and unusual punishment while the other hand is putting to death in the most cruel and unusual way a completely innocent person.

Our country is too great to allow this pattern to continue. And we have the best system anywhere in the world in which to remedy this before any more are lost. That's why our Congressmen need to hear from us  - en masse. The Founders provided a means for us to address such matters and it is up to us to take advantage of them.

Also let them know you support something like HR1070 - The Constitution Restoration Act of 2005 and think it’s vital Congress work as quickly as possible while also being thoughtful and thorough on the language. Or if you disagree, let them know that too.

But it seems to me as well it's time for our culture to begin seriously looking into the social aspects of why such horrid acts against women and girls are being carried out and with such frequency today. Why, after the grand promise of equality and justice for women promulgated in the past century by liberalism are today such cruel acts of misogyny so commonplace – and I would reasonably argue more commonplace than they were 100 years ago?

The truth is that not only do we need to reign in irresponsible judges and truly punish the convicted criminal, but it’s time we too took a look at ourselves in order to discover where we may have become overly permissive in allowing our culture (e.g. the media and our notions of "value" etc.) to in arguably so many respects cater to selfish, even sociopathic behavior.
