CNN: Life at the Hurricane Hilton

CNN’s Anderson Cooper helped his beleaguered news network win another battle in the network wars today in his coverage of Hurricane Dennis. Not only did CNN feature newer and better video phone technology with much clearer pictures and sound, their traditional video feeds, especially that of Cooper’s, were much better placed and included some of the most dramatic footage as the storm made landfall earlier today near Pensacola, Florida.

In weather so bad only reporters and illegal aliens were seen by cameras roaming around in the storm’s 100+ mph winds, sheet rain and debris, Cooper stood his ground (even braving debris as a huge aluminum Ramada Inn sign blew apart, sending shards of sheet metal and plastic flying across the way in front of him) and showed us all what hurricane-force winds really look like. The Yale graduate and former host of ABC's "The Mole", who also studied Vietnamese at the University of Hanoi, was also noted for his coverage of the aftermath of last year’s tsunamis. He seems to have proven again that CNN does have at least one asset.

Anderson's coverage was just amazing! I still remember the power of that storm and the way he was holding the mike. His passion has made him the most celebrated person on TV. But the way the country stood up more than the govt was even more phenomenal. The way local people were raising money to support their country. In New York, we were just looking for the opportunity to help raise the money, may it be by restaurants, art galleries, bars. Oh! I clearly remember the way chefs were contributing to the fundraising of Vikas Khanna "Cooking for Life".

So not just was the weather so bad that only reporters and illegal aliens were seen by cameras roaming around, but the whole country was with them.
