Final Week 2006: Tyrants, Leaders, & Legacies

Remembering Reagan amid the loss of both the mediocre and the evil

Have You Driven a Ford Lately? It is always a melancholy yet majestic thing to see a presidential funeral. This memorial for Gerald R. Ford comes just two short years after the passing of one of the greatest presidents in US history: Ronald Reagan.

Gone are the rows of waving flags, the sobbing millions; however, we still mourn President Ford. Gerald R. Ford was by all accounts a decent man. Yet the most passionate mourners this time other than the late President Ford’s immediate family and closest friends are the Washington politicos, the "stay the course" Republicans who yearn for a day where popular input in politics is reduced to the point of a rubber stamp on Washington’s priorities, not the other way around. Yet even in the absence of popular passion, Rockefeller Republicans still don't get it: America doesn't need to be lectured; America needs to be understood and represented, because Americans have the most to lose by a failed America and they know far better what is good for America than the Georgetown insiders. Of course, we'd be fortunate to have a Ford to take us anywhere today; what we have unfortunately is another Nixon (and all his dutiful Kissingers), who was politically a Rockefeller Republican like Ford, but dishonest, secretive, and vindictive (which is probably why Bush liked what he saw when he looked into Vladimir Putin's eyes). Today, we watch as the crusty old Brezhnev Republicans dispassionately celebrate a body whose soul has departed. Ronald Reagan was that soul, dispersed two years ago back to the people, invisible to those living in Washington today.

Indeed, tonight’s mourning in the rotunda respectfully sorrowful as it is given the circumstances must nonetheless be noted as nothing short of a gayla of the stodgy, the old and crusty, the establishment country club Republicans; the Kissingers (architect of the Vietnam disaster), the Cheneys, the Frists, the McCains, the Bakers (future architect of the Iraq disaster). And of course, we cannot forget the Rockefellers: ultraliberal Republican Nelson Rockefeller was President Ford’s Vice President after all, who was chosen to snub conservatives by refusing Ronald Reagan the spot; and it was the commission set up by this VP pick that effectively tied the hands of our CIA in the 1970s years before Jimmy Carter came along to carry the torch. Reagan in his final years of office at his advanced age had more life than any of these folks even on the most lively of golf outings.

What never ceases to astonish me however is that these guys are even unprincipled about being unprincipled: The way all of them still kiss the signet ring of the Gipper as if crossing themselves before the Blessed Virgin is hilarious and completely unbelievable, even without knowledge of their political treachery. Let us not forget that Republicans who today claim Reagan as their own because of his popularity would have been or indeed were among those who fought tooth and nail to keep him out of the hands of the people – and out of office. This again is why it is vital for Reagan-Conservatives to work hard within the grassroots of the party. Fail to win a worthy nomination and fail to keep America strong, safe, prosperous, and above all, good.

Hell and Saddamnation

The age of the video phone has arrived. First images of the dead dictator as well as video of his actual hanging (graphic) were made available first through this medium even as we wait for the official video and photos to surface. For most however, it is sufficient to know the murderer of millions is finally in the land of 72 pitchforks rather than for one to watch him being dispatched. Judging by the flashes during the cellcam recording, we can look forward those in the very least popping up on Drudge at some point as well. Meanwhile, as the alternative media leads, MSM bleeds...

Putin: Losing a Partner Of course Russian Caesar Vladimir Putin will be in mourning for the next few days after the other dictator who modeled himself after Stalin and Mau. Putin’s handmaidens in the Russian parliament have obligingly criticized the execution, claiming it will only bring more violence. But perhaps not without Russian arms, no? Another dictator on the rise, Putin is sad to see his favorite recipient of bribes and purchaser of arms go. Putin must find the strength to move on and appreciate the ones he has left, however, if he is ever going to do anything with his life for the remainder of the year. Ahmadinnerjacket and Assad are standing by, along with Putin’s dear soul-sensing amigo in Washington, to consol him. I for one sleep better knowing that.

Tube for Boob Only: Chavez to Shut Down Opposition Media Fully expected, but we couldn’t let him get away with timing it to coincide with all the chaos that was the week’s news cycle. And I guess he wouldn’t have wanted to do it during Infidel Castrato’s wake. The BBC quotes democracy-loving Hugo Chavez as saying, “There will be no new operating licence for this coupist TV channel - the measure has been drafted so go turn off the equipment.” I bet the next elections will be just as fair, as were the previous. Does anybody wonder when Jimmy Carter (venerator of Venezuelan “fair elections”) will be holding his presser to condemn our new little fascist?

Another Poor Tornado "Just Trying to Find Work" Bush takes refuge from a tornado while in Crawford, Texas, apparently failing to understand that tornadoes do the work Americans refuse to do. While President Ford, history notes, was a good man, President Reagan loved Americans; President Ford liked Americans, though that is still far better than what we have today. Also, while Clinton may have liked Americans too but disliked the idea of America, Bush says he likes the idea of America so long as it is an idea that is purely abstract; however, he doesn't seem to care much for Americans. I know that was confusing to read, but I don’t get paid to write this stuff. Americans under Bush after all is said and done are the last to have their rights recognized behind a long list of policies conceived of by politicos and rights doled out to foreign nationals (even possible terrorists and spies) where there are none in the constitution to dole out. Yes, the Kissinger, Nixon, Rockefeller, Brezhnev Republicans have both completely undone nearly every bit of progress by Reagan all the while taking full credit for his ability to reach office. It is truly a spectacle to behold, albeit I’m beginning to wonder if that should be done from say, Australia…

The Debris Rains around the Planes (and Trains) Mainly in Spain Since the previous terrorist attack in Spain led Spanish voters to elect a candidate who could properly surrender to the Islamofascist terrorists in the Middle East, one has to wonder if this attack will effectively guarantee Spain cedes at last to the demands of the Basque separatists.

Double-crossed: Keep Having Funerals at the Rotunda and the ACLU Might Take Notice Last but not least: Apparently a cross has continued unnoticed by the revisionist Atheo-fascists. Surely holding high-profile ceremonies next to the cross during the holidays was a good strategy for keeping them distracted. While I'm sure he or she doesn't know it yet, I'm sure someone somewhere was hurt by seeing this picture or just knowing about it...

And that my friends is the Blogbat Holiday roundup (WARNING: some content may have been serious). Happy New Year!
